Satya and Sherry met on Kauai where both have been immersed in studying and practicing the wisdom of Buddhism and Yoga respectively. They bring together the richness of these ancient traditions and their life experiences to support their own awakening and bring these teachings to life for others. Now both women have settled in Santa Cruz and are collaborating to offer teachings and retreats to delve more deeply into conscious growth and awareness.
Meet Sacred Threshold Co-Founders
Satya and Sherry
Satya was born and raised in Northern California and has called Kauai home for the last 10 years. She recently returned to California and now resides in Rio Del Mar. She remains passionate about the beauty the islands hold; and embraces the loving aloha that is at the heart of all people everywhere.
Her formal training includes a BA in Liberal Studies and Graduate Degree in Education from San Jose State University. After years of teaching she later went on to obtain her Massage Therapy License, Watsu Certification (Zen Shiatsu in water) and Ministry License with the Universal Life Church. A two year intensive study program at a Buddhist Retreat Center provided a deeper understanding of the path she found herself undertaking. This path has taken Satya to many locations throughout the world.
Decades of deep inquiry into the true nature of things has given Satya the motivation and inspiration to cultivate what she holds to be her gift to the world. Simple and direct, she speaks and leads groups with an invitation to directly experience ourselves as we are. She brings this element in all her work and communion with others.
She is a Licensed Hawaiian Lomi Massage Therapist, Omni Faith Minister, Wedding Officiant, Transpersonal Ceremony Facilitator, and Inspirational Teacher. She was a competitive triathlete and marathon runner for many years and now enjoys running, swimming and hiking as a meaningful way to connect to herself and to the natural beauty of the earth.
Every aspect of her work is devoted to this path of service. Satya’s wish is to bring this sincere offering to all those she meets. Her invitation is to simply recognize and love yourself as you truly are.....pure, whole and free.
“Love says “I am everything”. Wisdom says “I am nothing”.
Between the two, my life flows”.
Sherry has settled in Santa Cruz after growing up in San Jose and raising her own family in Palo Alto. She loves the natural beauty and spiritual energy of both Santa Cruz and Kauai, her homes on the Pacific Ocean.
Sherry is actively involved in teaching and spiritual accompaniment in both Catholicism and Yoga. Sherry serves as Coordinator of Adult Formation at St. Joseph's Parish in Capitola. She makes her Yoga home at Pleasure Point Yoga where she has taught Monday morning Satsang exploring Patanjali's Yoga Sutra for the past five years. She also enjoys teaching Yin Yoga and her own creation, Sutrasana.
Sherry's background includes a BA in Human Biology from Stanford University, a law degree from Georgetown University, over 30 years of practice in law and dispute resolution, a Masters in Transpersonal Psychology and a certificate in Spiritual Guidance from Sofia University, and over 500 hours of Yoga Teacher Training with Bhavani Maki, Kofi Busia, and Judith Lasater.
Sherry loves sparking inquiry and insight in her students as they explore teachings across traditions and disciplines. She has taught in the Religious Studies Department at Santa Clara University and also at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology (now Sofia University).
Sherry now dedicates herself full time to spiritual practice and study, teaching and writing, bringing the depth of her experience and practice across personal and professional landscapes. She integrates teachings from her own deep traditions of Yoga and Catholicism, weaving in spiritual teachings from other traditions and teachers, bringing home the truth that there is one light but many windows.
Sherry is delighted to partner with Satya in offering teachings and retreats to expand the scope of wisdom teachings and awareness practices for herself and her students.
